About me

A close-up of a man with a gray beard and mustache wearing a blue and black North Face cap and a blue jacket, smiling outdoors.

I am a Portuguese photographer drawn to places, people and quiet moments.

My photography is rooted in travel, but less in the idea of documenting these destinations and more in trying to understand them. I am interested in the small gestures, the light that brings a street to life and the small moments that make everything fall into place.

The work of Sam Abell has been an important influence on the way I see photography - particularly his patience, his attention to composition and his belief in staying with a place long enough for the photograph to reveal itself.

Much of my work so far has been around Portugal and the Atlantic islands — the Azores, Madeira, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe — places to which I return whenever possible.

I photograph slowly, with curiosity and without trying to force things.
